MEGAN - HEAD OF CREATIVE

Tell us about you, your role and what your day to day’s like.

My job is super varied - just how I like it. I head up the social media and creative teams. One day I could be working on conceptualising for our next big campaign the next I’ll be sitting down planning out marketing activations. Every day is different and comes with a new challenge, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I love to be pushed out of my comfort zone.

How did you land your dream job?

I ended up on set with Oh Polly when I was working for my old employer. I was capturing and editing all of their BTS content from the shoot. I impressed the Oh Polly team on set that day and the rest is history!

What was your interview prep and process like?

Due to the nature of how I ended up in the company my interview prep and process was a lot more laid back. The marketing manager saw my work on set that day and knew she wanted to offer me a position, so it all happened very quickly!

What are your best interview tips?

When I interview for my team, I always look for someone who is super career driven. The fashion industry is not all fun and games and if you really want to succeed in the industry then you need to be focussed on your career and goals because it’s not a 9-5 job and an easy life. That and having a strong opinion and oozing confidence makes the perfect candidate for me - everything else is teachable.

What’s your favourite thing about working for Oh Polly/Bo+Tee?

I love the creative freedom I get. Claire, the CEO, has always encouraged us to put creativity at the forefront of our minds each day and this is exactly why I adore my job. I’ve disciplined myself over the last couple of years to really learn the brands inside out and it paid off. I’ve worked to get to a point where each day in my working life is just packed full of creativity.

What’s been your biggest achievement working for Oh Polly/Bo+Tee?

Growing within the brand from a Social Assistant to Head of Creative in just 2.5 years. I had a goal in mind for myself and I wasn’t going to give up until I got there. To be valued so highly within the brand from the CEO’s is something I don’t take for granted. No campaign, no trip, no event will ever come close to that achievement for me.

If your colleagues were to describe you, what would they say?

Super opinionated and very particular lol. But also hard working, passionate and very loyal to the brand!

What tips would you give to someone in their final year of university?

Decide what you want from your life in the next 10 years and set your goals now. If it’s a career you want then it’s time to start putting the work in now. Don’t wish for someone else’s life that you’ve seen on Instagram - it’s a highlight reel and everyone (no matter what it looks like from their grid) is working super hard each day on themselves and their own goals. You are the most important person in your life, do what you need to do to reach your goals.

What advice would you give to a graduate who wanted to work in fashion?

It’s a very saturated industry and everyone wants to work for a good brand, so find what makes you unique and use it to your advantage over all of the other graduates. What’s your key skill that you excel in? Use it to get yourself noticed. Be disciplined enough to learn your craft inside and out.

What advice would you give to a graduate who wanted to work in your role specifically?

Start off as an assistant and work your way up. Set your career goal early and be loyal to the brand. Jumping from job to job doesn’t guarantee career progression but sticking in, working super hard, taking on constructive criticism and living and breathing the brand sure will. Your attitude to your job will go a long way - trust me.
